Summary:
I will have a webpage specifically for information on CleanROM. I will include it here once finished.
With this guide you should be able to install CleanROM, TWRP, and Magisk. This will create a nice solid foundation or your portable emulating device.
Few things to keep in mind:
- You will lose your Data and start from scratch.
- These instructions use a MicroSD card.
( You can do it without a MicroSD card but just know that you will lose your internal memory when you format data, so you need to pull it out to pc before you do. ) -
I went straight to using SPFlash. If you need help installing SPFlash use this guide ( Just install! nothing more ) : SPFlash Link
Download Required Files
- [ Video Time 1:20 ] - Download a copy of CleanROM (SPFlash version) - Get the latest
- [ Video Time 1:37 ] - Extract the CleanROM 7z to your computer. ( It will be a .7z file NOT .zip )
- [ Video Time 1:58 ] - Download the latest Magisk file at the bottom of this link . ( Get Magisk.zip NOT MagiskManager )
Format your MicroSDCard and put Magisk on it
(Use whatever app you want. This is the one I use : SD Memory Card Formatter)
- [ Video Time 2:22 ] - Put your MicroSD Card into your computer.
- [ Video Time 2:28 ] - Start SD Memory Card Formatter.
- [ Video Time 2:32 ] - Give your card a name ( label ).
- [ Video Time 2:36 ] - Click on Format.
- [ Video Time 2:38 ] - Click on Yes.
- [ Video Time 2:40 ] - Click on OK.
- [ Video Time 2:42 ] - Exit SD Memory Card Formatter.
- [ Video Time 2:44 ] - Right click your MicroSD card on the window browser and select Open in new window.
- [ Video Time 2:48 ] - Drag and drop the Magisk.zip into your MicroSD Card.
- [ Video Time 2:58 ] - Right click your MicroSD card and select Eject.
- [ Video Time 3:04 ] - Remove your MicroSD card from the PC and put it into your GPD XD Plus.
Install Recovery partition (TWRP)
- [ Video Time 3:28 ] - Start SP Flash Tool.
(Should be in C:\SP_Flash_Tool_v5.1824_Win\flash_tool.exe) - [ Video Time 3:33 ] - Click on Choose next to Scatter-loading File, and select CleanROM.txt inside your CleanROM folder.
- [ Video Time 3:44 ] - Make sure you have Download Only mode selected on the pull down menu.
- [ Video Time 3:52 ] - Only select recovery on the partition list. Nothing more!
( You can use the box next to Name to Select all or Deselect all ) - [ Video Time 3:56 ] - Click on Download below the green arrow.
- [ Video Time 3:56 ] - Connect usb to computer and to GPD XD Plus. ( If install starts, skip the next steps )
If your XD is not recognized and it does not start to install:- Click on Download below the green arrow.
- press and hold Vol+ on your GPD XD Plus.
- Connect USB to your computer and to the GPD XD Plus.
- Let go of Vol+.
- [ Video Time 4:17 ] - When installation completes, disconnect USB from computer.
Start TWRP on the GPD XD Plus
(If during this process you see NO COMMAND or you see the image of an android,
you must repeat the steps above to install TWRP again : Install Recovery partition (TWRP))
- [ Video Time 4:21 ] - Press and hold the Power button on the GPD XD Plus.
- [ Video Time 4:25 ] - Press and hold the Power button and Vol+ together.
- [ Video Time 4:27 ] - When you see the LED blink and get bright, let go of the Power button.
- [ Video Time 4:32 ] - When you see the Select Boot Mode appear, let go of Vol+.
- [ Video Time 4:40 ] - Press Vol+ until you have selected: [ Recovery Mode ].
- [ Video Time 4:40 ] - Press Vol-.
Format Data
- [ Video Time 4:55 ] - From the TWRP main menu press Wipe button
- [ Video Time 4:57 ] - Next press Format Data button.
- [ Video Time 4:59 ] - type the word YES and press enter ( check mark ).
- [ Video Time 5:07 ] - Next press the Back button.
- [ Video Time 5:09 ] - Next press Back arrow button.
- [ Video Time 5:11 ] - Next press Back arrow button again.
Backup NVData
- [ Video Time 5:12 ] - From the TWRP main menu press Backup button
- [ Video Time 5:14 ] - On the top there are tabs, press the Options tab.
- [ Video Time 5:16 ] - Make sure that you select:
- [x] Enable compression
- [x] Skip Digest generation during backup
- [ Video Time 5:18 ] - Under Name press on the (Auto Generate) text field.
- [ Video Time 5:22 ] - Give your backup a name. I used nvdata. Press enter after you are done. ( white arrow )
- [ Video Time 5:38 ] - Deselect all partitions. Only select nvdata and nvram.
- [ Video Time 5:48 ] - Press the Select Storage button.
- [ Video Time 5:50 ] - Select Micro SD card.
- [ Video Time 5:51 ] - Press OK.
- [ Video Time 5:53 ] - Slide the slider at the bottom. Slide to the right to confirm the backup.
- [ Video Time 6:03 ] - Next press the Back button.
- [ Video Time 6:05 ] - Next press Back arrow button.
- [ Video Time 6:06 ] - Next press the Reboot button.
- [ Video Time 6:07 ] - Next press the Power Off button
Install CleanROM
- [ Video Time 6:12 ] - SPFlash should be open on your computer. Select ALL partition boxes.
- [ Video Time 6:17 ] - Click on the Download button below the green arrow.
- [ Video Time 6:20 ] - Connect usb to computer and to GPD XD Plus. ( If install starts, skip the next steps )
If your XD is not recognized and it does not start to install:- Click on Download below the green arrow.
- Press and hold Vol+ on your GPD XD Plus.
- Connect USB to your computer and to the GPD XD Plus.
- Let go of Vol+.
- [ Video Time 6:32 ] - When installation completes, disconnect USB from computer.
Start TWRP on the GPD XD Plus
- [ Video Time 6:36 ] - Press and hold the Power button on the GPD XD Plus.
- [ Video Time 6:36 ] - Press and hold the Power button and Vol+ together.
- [ Video Time 6:36 ] - When you see the LED blink and get bright, let go of the Power button.
- [ Video Time 6:36 ] - When you see the Select Boot Mode appear, let go of Vol+.
- [ Video Time 6:36 ] - Press Vol+ until you have selected: [ Recovery Mode ].
- [ Video Time 6:36 ] - Press Vol-.
Restore NVData
- [ Video Time 6:42 ] - Press the Restore button.
- [ Video Time 6:45 ] - Press the Select Storage button.
- [ Video Time 6:47 ] - Select Micro SD card.
- [ Video Time 6:48 ] - Press OK.
- [ Video Time 6:50 ] - Select your the nvdata backup that you made earlier. I used nvdata as a name.
- [ Video Time 6:55 ] - Slide the slider at the bottom. Slide to the right to confirm the restore.
- [ Video Time 6:59 ] - Press the Reboot System button at the bottom.
Finish Installation Wizard
- [ Video Time 7:05 ] - Press the Get Started button.
- [ Video Time 7:08 ] - Select Set up as new.
- [ Video Time 7:14 ] - Finish the wizard by inputing your information.
- [ Video Time 7:14 ] - Do not open any other apps or settings. Just follow the next instructions.
Fix Headphone Jack Polarity
If you see a headphone icon at the top right of your screen, then continue with instructions.
(shown at 7:22 on video)
If you do NOT see the icon, skip this section and start: Installing Magisk .
- [ Video Time 7:24 ] - Swipe down to open status bar.
- [ Video Time 7:26 ] - press on the drop down arrow at the top right of status bar.
- [ Video Time 7:28 ] - Press on the Settings button.
- [ Video Time 7:31 ] - Scroll down and select CleanROM settings.
- [ Video Time 7:34 ] - Select Headphone jack polarity. This should make the headphone icon dissapear.
- [ Video Time 7:43 ] - Go back to homescreen.
Installing Magisk
- [ Video Time 7:48 ] - Press and hold the Power button until you see the Power Menu.
- [ Video Time 7:49 ] - Select Reboot to recovery.
- [ Video Time 7:52 ] - Select OK.
- [ Video Time 8:00 ] - Press the Install button.
- [ Video Time 8:02 ] - Press the Select Storage button.
- [ Video Time 8:04 ] - Select Micro SD card.
- [ Video Time 8:06 ] - Press OK.
- [ Video Time 8:07 ] - Select your Magisk.zip file. I am using Magisk-v19.3.zip.
- [ Video Time 8:10 ] - Slide the slider at the bottom. Slide to the right to confirm the installation ( flashing ).
- [ Video Time 8:15 ] - Press the Reboot System button.
Finish up CleanROM install
- [ Video Time 8:22 ] - Pull down the status bar.
- [ Video Time 8:30 ] - Select the SD Card notification.
- [ Video Time 8:33 ] - Select the Use as portable storage.
- [ Video Time 8:34 ] - Select Next.
- [ Video Time 8:35 ] - Select Done.
- [ Video Time 8:38 ] - Update Magisk if it needs it.
- [ Video Time 9:10 ] - Pull down the status bar.
- [ Video Time 9:11 ] - press on the drop down arrow at the top right of status bar.
- [ Video Time 9:12 ] - Press on the Settings button.
- [ Video Time 9:14 ] - Select WiFi .
- [ Video Time 9:18 ] - Toggle WiFi so it is OFF.
- [ Video Time 9:20 ] - Press Back button.
- [ Video Time 9:23 ] - Select Apps.
- [ Video Time 9:28 ] - Select Google Play services.
- [ Video Time 9:29 ] - Select Storage.
- [ Video Time 9:31 ] - Select Manage Space.
- [ Video Time 9:33 ] - Select Clear All Data.
- [ Video Time 9:35 ] - Select OK.
- [ Video Time 9:36 ] - Select Clear All Data.
- [ Video Time 9:38 ] - Press Back button until you are at Apps again.
- [ Video Time 9:43 ] - Select Google Play Store.
- [ Video Time 9:45 ] - Select Storage.
- [ Video Time 9:48 ] - Select Clear Data.
- [ Video Time 9:49 ] - Select OK.
- [ Video Time 9:51 ] - Press Back button until you are at Homescreen again.
- [ Video Time 9:57 ] - Press and hold the Power button until you see the Power Menu.
- [ Video Time 9:59 ] - Select Reboot to recovery.
- [ Video Time 10:03 ] - Select OK.
Delete NVData backup
- [ Video Time 10:11 ] - Select Restore button.
- [ Video Time 10:15 ] - Select nvdata backup.
- [ Video Time 10:18 ] - Select Delete Backup button.
- [ Video Time 10:20 ] - Slide the slider at the bottom. Slide to the right to confirm delete.
- [ Video Time 10:23 ] - Select the Back button.
- [ Video Time 10:26 ] - Mistake in video - it is not Select Storage. You need to select the Back arrow.
Making a backup
- [ Video Time 10:28 ] - Select the Backup button.
- [ Video Time 10:30 ] - On the top there are tabs, press the Options tab.
